Day 3 Men's Category

The Malaysia Men's team were unable to keep pace with the speedy Taiwan Mobile Clouded Leopards and were defeated 78-66, settling for third place in the 3rd Malaysia International Basketball Championship. The undefeated Leopards, like their female counterparts from Chinese Taipei, took the championship trophy while the Western Tigers from Australia took second place.

The Leopards took an early 5-0 lead before John Ng scored Malaysia's first basket and Malaysia managed to pull within 1 soon after. However, 10 consecutive points from Wu Yung-Jen gave the Leopards and 10 point lead and they maintained this 10 point cushion going into halftime.

Day 3 Women's Category

Malaysia defeated Singapore in their last match of the tournament for a 2-1 win-loss record, good enough for second-place in the 3rd Malayisa International Basketball Championship. Undefeated Fo Guang University took home the championship while the team from Guang Dong Pan Yu Middle School took third place.

Malaysia posted a 72-48 victory over Singapore on the strength of captain Kew Suik May's 16 points and 8 rebounds off 3-for-4 shooting from beyond the arc. Malaysia got off to a slow start and the game was tied at 16 during the second quarter.

Day 2 Men's Category

The Malaysian men were not going to be content to allow the women to steal the limelight in day 2 of the competition. After the women's team scored a 64-41 victory over the Guangzhou girls, our men's team faced the Guang Xi men's team as well. Although the Chinese held a 6 point lead going into the half-time break, our men came back strong in the second half to win the game convincingly with a final score of 75-51.

The Guang Xi team led by as much as 10 in the second quarter of play, but their scoring seemed to dry up soon after and Malaysia went on a 14-0 run to regain a 4 point lead.

Day 2 Women's Category

Team Malaysia scored their first victory of the tournament over the girls from Guangzhou and solidify their chances at a second-place finish in this year's MIBC. Malaysia had lost to the Guangzhou Youth team 54-66 last year. This year's Guangzhou squad, unfortunately, had several key omissions due to problems with visa applications. Nevertheless, team Malaysia put up a good effort to win the game 64-41.

The Chinese may have been much bigger in size than our girls, however, they were unable to fully capitalise on this crucial advantage due to their lack of experience. The Malaysians pressured the Guangzhou girls into 36 turnovers.

Day 1 Men's Category

Team Malaysia faced a bigger, stronger Western Tigers team and were unable to find their rhythm during the start of their first game of the MIBC. The Western Tigers, on the other hand, got off to a great start, hitting 8 three-point shots in the first half alone, including five-in-a-row during the second quarter. They finished the half with a 52-31 lead over the hosts.

Malaysia played a much better second half and got their inside game going as well. Unfortunately, the Western Tigers had an answer for every shot the Malaysians made and the Australians won the game with a final score of 86-66.

Day 1 Women's Category

Our girls got off to a great start during their first game of the MIBC against Fo Guang University, with a 9-2 run in the first 4 minutes. Fo Guang's shots were unable to find the bottom of the net in the first quarter and our girls capitalised on this with a few quick baskets in transition. However, Fo Guang soon regained their composure and went on a run of their own, finishing the first quarter with a 14-13 lead.

Shots began to fall for Fo Guang in the second quarter as they began to rain threes from beyond the arc. Known for their pin-point accuracy from long-range, the Fo Guang girls managed to extend their lead to 11 by half-time.
